About Melissa
The goal of therapy is not to become a different person. It is to become a happier and more fulfilled version of yourself.
Therapy helps you to gain clarity around who you are and what is important to you. Gain the courage to become “that” person, the one you’ve always wanted to be, and to love yourself unconditionally.
In therapy you can dispense the secrets and hidden thoughts that you’ve held in, without fear of judgment, retaliation, or hurting others. It’s a tremendous relief to have someone with whom you can share these (often scary) thoughts and feelings.
I’m Melissa Millian Katz, a licensed clinical social worker, and as your therapist I promise to listen to you, to support you, and to accept you for who you are, in this present moment.
One of my gifts is that I’m easy to talk to, especially for those who have difficulty trusting and sharing with others. I come from a family of mental health professionals — my mother and sister are both psychologists. It seems I’ve been thinking like a therapist my whole life; it’s just second nature to me.
In fact, you can click here to read more about my sister and me teaming up to work together as therapists.
I’m married with two adult children, a golden retriever, and two cats. I’ve experienced times of sadness, loss and confusion, disappointments, struggles, medical problems, challenging relationships, parenting problems and have worked tirelessly to make my life more satisfying and peaceful. I continue working on myself and adapting to create a life that I love.
It is because I have done this myself that I know you can do this, too. You can create a life that you love.
My goal is to use my own lived experience, my training as a social worker, my experience as a psychotherapist, and the research-proven strategies of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT) and solution-focused therapy to support you on your journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and self-love.
Schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation with me to find out more. We will discuss any questions you have and make sure therapy with me is a good fit for your needs.
